Research note 01 · Germany · Industrial air treatment
One plant. Four asset states.
A site-level transformation can be real while individual assets remain in very different states. Public records from Daimler Truck’s Wörth plant show why “completed”, “connected”, “shut down” and “not yet implemented” cannot be collapsed into one status.

Question: what can public sources actually establish about the transition of exhaust-air treatment around the Wörth paint operations?
The trap
“The plant is being converted” is true. It is also too imprecise to describe the equipment state.
Daimler Truck’s January 2025 announcement describes a staged paint-shop transformation expected to continue through 2026. The environmental statement resolves that broad change into separate asset-level states.
Reconstructed state
Four different statements are simultaneously true
State is assigned to the specific asset or exhaust stream, not to the site as a whole.
01Completed
New paint-shop exhaust treatment
The 2025 environmental programme reports the construction and conversion work as completed as planned. Exhaust-air cleaning is carried out via F‑RTO. The measure is recorded at 100%.
What this establishesThe specified paint-shop treatment measure reached the completed state reported in the 2025 environmental statement.
02Connected
Chassis-paint exhaust streams
The same statement records that solvent-laden exhaust from the chassis painting installations was connected in Q4 2024 to the new electric F‑RTO serving the cab paint shop.
What this establishesA dated connection event for a defined exhaust stream — stronger evidence than a general project announcement.
03Exited
RTO 1B
Following the chassis-paint connection, the environmental statement says the exhaust-air treatment installation identified as “RTO 1B” was switched off.
What this establishesAn explicit negative state. A historical installed-base record for RTO 1B should no longer be treated as an active positive record.
04Pending
Unimog paint box IV dryer exhaust
The planned connection of the dryer exhaust from paint box IV (Unimog painting) had not yet entered implementation in the 2025 statement. The combined measure is recorded at 90%.
What this establishesThe broader transition was not uniform. One remaining branch was still unresolved at the document date.
Corporate source
The broad transformation
Daimler Truck’s 29 January 2025 announcement says the new cab-paint process is being introduced in stages. One new paint booth had been installed, the existing lines were to be converted progressively, and completion of the paint-shop conversion was expected in 2026.
It also states that five paint boxes and two dryers are intended to replace fifteen paint stations and four dryers.
Environmental source
The asset-level state
The 2025 environmental statement is more granular: one treatment measure is complete, a defined exhaust stream has been connected, one older RTO has been shut down, and another connection has not yet entered implementation.
The two sources are not contradictory. They answer different questions and operate at different levels of detail.

What reconstruction changes
Site state
Never used as a substitute for the state of every individual asset.
Project language
“Planned”, “being introduced” and “expected by 2026” remain project statements until a source establishes a more specific event.
Positive evidence
A dated connection or completed measure is retained at the object it actually describes.
Negative evidence
An explicit shutdown is preserved so obsolete installed-base records do not remain positive by default.
Unknowns
The page does not infer supplier contracts, maintenance need, procurement timing or the later completion of the Unimog branch.
